On July 6, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Philippine National Security Adviser Ms. Clarita Carlos in Manila.

Wang Yi said, China and the Philippines enjoy a thousand-year history of friendly exchanges. Over the past six years, with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Philippines relations have achieved turnarounds, improvement and upgrading. That President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos won the election has opened a new page in the history of China-Philippines relations, and the two peoples are full of expectations for the development of bilateral relations. This visit aims to demonstrate the importance China attaches to its relations with the Philippines and its support for the new Philippine administration, as well as the continuity and stability of China's friendly policy toward the Philippines. China is ready to work with the Philippines to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen practical cooperation in various fields, and usher in the next "golden era" of China-Philippines relations.

Carlos said, the people of the Philippines and China enjoy close friendship and cultural affinity. China is a great friendly country. The Philippine side fully agrees with President Xi Jinping's emphasis on working with the Asia-Pacific countries for a bright future of peace and prosperity for all, and is ready to work with China to expand exchanges and cooperation, properly handle differences, promote mutual trust, enhance confidence, accumulate goodwill and consolidate friendship.

Wang Yi said, China has never taken the old path of colonial plundering by traditional powers, and is committed to peaceful development, win-win cooperation and sharing development opportunities with its neighbors. China is ready to join hands with other countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind and truly protect the global village where we live.

Wang Yi stressed, China and the Philippines are close neighbors that cannot move away. To be friendly and more friendly is our only option. The sound, sustained and stable development of China-Philippines relations serves the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries and two peoples. In the face of the current international and regional situations full of uncertainties and instability, the two sides should carry forward the traditional friendship, make China-Philippines relations more solid and stronger, and keep moving forward on the right track.

The two sides agreed to strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges to consolidate the popular support and social foundation for bilateral friendship.

The two sides agreed to summarize the valuable experience of bilateral exchanges, strive to safeguard the overall picture of the China-Philippines friendship, and not use disputes to define bilateral relations or let specific differences hinder bilateral cooperation.
